The Red Feathered Hen Story
The Red Queen’s hen had red feathers. One day Toby the fox saw the Red Queen and said, “I’ll eat this chicken for dinner.” He told his wife, “Keep the water boiling to make delicious chicken broth for dinner.” Toby went to catch the Red Queen.
He hid behind a tree and waited for her to cross the road. “Doo-doodle-doo… Skavk!” sang the Red Queen, walking merrily. Toby grabbed her by the neck and stuffed her into the sack. The chicken’s friend, the goose, saw what happened. I must help the Red Queen, she thought.
The goose was lying on the road, pretending to be wounded. Seeing the wounded bird, the greedy Toby threw the sack to catch the goose. To his surprise, the goose jumped up and ran further and further. Toby chased after her.
The Red Queen took this opportunity to get out of the bag and escape. I put a stone inside. Failing to catch the goose, Toby returned. At least I have chicken for lunch, he thought.
He took the bag and hurried home. He turned the sack over to a pot of boiling water. “Splash!” The stone doused the greedy fox with hot water and burned his paws!
